Shoaib Malik celebrates his 35 years old

Pakistan’s vastly experienced allrounder and former captain, Shoaib Malik turned 35 years old on Wednesday.

Shoaib Malik made his international debut on October 14, 1999 against West Indies in an ODI at Sharjah as an off-spinner. He is one of the few players that made their debut in 90s and are still playing international cricket.

He started off as his career an off-spinner, but later turned into a specialist batsman and has batted for his team on 10 different positions in the batting line. He has 6,548 runs and 153 wickets against his name in 244 ODIs.

Malik made his Test debut against Bangladesh at Multan on August 29, 2001. He made his last Test appearance versus England on November 2015 at Sharjah. He played 35 Tests, where he scored 1,898 runs with the help of a double century, two centuries and eight half-centuries.

He has played 82 T20 internationals so far for Pakistan and has scored 1,548 runs and has taken 25 wickets. He features different T20 leagues all around the world. He has led his domestic side, Sialkot Stallions to record eight title wins domestic T20 tournament.

He was named Pakistan’s captain after Inzamam Ul Haq’s retirement. His captaincy reign was two years long with some ups and downs. He took his team to the final of the first World T20 event in 2007, where they lost to India after a close contest. He captained Pakistan in three Tests, where they lost two and drew one. He led the Men in Green in 36 ODIs and 17 T20is winning 24 and 12 of them respectively.

He plays for Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). He captained the side in the first edition of the league, but he has now handed over the captaincy band to Sri Lanka’s veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Kumara Sangakkara.

Shoaib Malik is married to India’s ace tennis star, Sania Mirza.
